Dog Training Basics Made Easy
All the people who have dogs or any other pets in their house expect them to behave in a certain way that makes them happy and also makes them feel safe.
It can be very difficult for a dog to comprehend certain commands from other commands. Teaching a dog to sit is like telling him to do a specific task or an action. Here in this command you are trying to teach him not to change his state.
If you want to add some other commands with the command “stay” like “sit” or “down” then even start with only sit and if your dog is following your command, even then do not start praising immediately but just again start with the stay command. Do not modify your voice tone immediately so that when you say a command like sit, stay or down the dog knows that you are asking him to do something. There are many chances that when you say the command the dog will just sit and look at you then after a little time praise your dog with some kind of treat.
While teaching the dog stay command say a word that will let your dog know that he is done with the specific command. The most common word used is okay. After that you can start with the praising of your pup.
Sometimes what happens is that the dog gets up and breaks command in between. If he does so then ask him to sit again and again until he holds the command. Iin this case if you have asked the dog to sit again then praise him immediately after the process.
Also remember that make the period of stay smaller so that the dog will do the correct things and you can reward him. It won’t take much time since then your dog will realize what you want.
After this step start moving away from the dog and make him stay longer. After that combine the commands with down and sit so that your dog understands all linked commands. After giving the command praise the dog within a few seconds with gradually increasing the distance between you and the dog.
