How A Nascar Dog Collar Can Help
When I was eight years old, I had an experience that transformed my entire life. My younger brother and I had been adopted by a woman who had entered the foster system, thinking intitally that she wanted to be a long term home for children waiting to be placed. The connection that formed with my brother and I was so strong, that the three of us could not imagine ever parting again, and so we became family. I had a lot of healing to do, and a lot of past trauma that was causing me to act out. One day, when I woke up, there was a Nascar dog collar sitting at the end of my bed. My new mother then explained that once I had gone through a program caring for dogs, that I could have one of my very own.
My brother was excited about this prospect because he wanted to dress a dog up in MLB dog jerseys and NFL dog collars to celebrate his love of sports, but I knew that for me, this would be a very special personal journey. I was right about that. The program I went through changed my life forever. It helped my brother too, because once I got a dog, he had to save up his allowance to be able to buy the NFL dog collars that he wanted. Who knew that just one animal could help one person heal emotionally and psychologically, while helping another to learn about fiscal responsibility?
The benefits of programs that get kids involved in caring for dogs are numerous, to say the least. Taking care of another being and being responsible for it helps kids to gain self esteem and self confidence. Being put in a nurturing role can ensure that children learn positive relationship skills. It can even help break the cycle of abuse for some children. It is easy to learn to be proud of oneself in such a program, which was something that was important for me, personally.
As someone who suffered from neglect at a young age, my empathetic skills were not very good. I did not always read body language well, or understand what another person was feeling or why they were feeling that way. Learning to understand how dogs felt and how my actions affected them was a very powerful social lesson that carried very easily over to humans. Dogs are also very accepting animals, which is something that many people need to feel more of. Unconditional love and acceptance- isn’t that what we all strive for?
