Training your dog, making a friend

If you love dogs like I love dogs then you know that owning one is like having another member of your family around you whenever you need them. It’s having a friend that listens to you when you have no one else to talk to and who won’t judge you but will only appreciate the companionship. To me that companionship is very important because who else besides me would ever love my dog as much as I do?

Of course, caring for your canine friend should come second to none. You should care for your pet, naturally, but you should also know how to care for your pet properly. This means proper diet, exercise and training. Also regular trips to the vet are a must for any healthy, happy dog!

Let’s talk about training. As I’ve said, training is an important step one must take if your dog is to have a happy and healthy life with you. Training your dog is like teaching him or her to understand you, and, you to understand him or her in return. One Aspect of educating your dog is formal training. Examples of this include walking with a collar and leash, just in front or beside you without pulling away, obedience commands like sit, stay and fetch etc. Other important aspects include house training and socialization (interacting with people and other animals and experimenting with the numerous physical elements of his/her local environment including hard wood flooring to carpet to asphalt to grass and also noise like traffic and lawnmowers etc).

It’s important to do your homework before you begin training your dog. The internet is a vast source of knowledge for this. Of course, the internet is so vast that it is easy to study up and then think ones self more then competent to head up the training with little or no problems. Though this may be true for some, it is still recommended that you confide in some professional or experienced dog trainer to make sure the program you have adopted for your dog is right for them (your dog) and for you. There are many training methods out there and when you consider all the variables- the type of dog, the dogs history (did you get him/her from a breeder or the pound or perhaps a previous owner?) and the environment (do you live in a city or a town?) and (do you live in a house or an apartment or even on a farm?). There is a lot to consider.

It is ever so rewarding to train your dog the right way. The time you put in to it comes back to you ten fold in the form of a friend that is easy to get along with and a pleasure to spend time with, a pet to play with in the yard or at the park that enjoys your company as much as you enjoy theirs. A dog trained properly can breed years of happiness and countless good times! The time you spend with your pet is a joy equal only to the time you spend looking back and remembering your time together.
